Rick has over 35 years of fleet management experience and has experience on a wide variety of equipment and alternative fuel vehicles. He started in his father’s truck garage, Gene Sikes Co., and later managed the family business. He was a Region Rebuild Center Manager for Frito-Lay and spent 13 years at UPS where he held positions as District Fleet Manager, Region Training and Compliance Manager and Corporate Trainer. Rick was the Fleet Superintendent for the City of Santa Monica for 10 years.
Rick has always been an early adopter and is actively involved in growing the alternative fuel industry. He is one of the original collaborators of and was the City’s liaison for the Santa Monica AltCar Expo. Since 2006 AltCar Expo has educated people on the transportation choices they have available and motivated them to make a change. He is also active in NAFA, MEMA, Clean Cities and other groups working toward a more sustainable transportation future.
Rick is leading the charge as carbonBLU promotes the new NAFA Sustainable Fleet Accreditation Program to fleets as a tool to become more sustainable. (nafasustainable.org) The accreditation program, developed in collaboration with CalStart, encourages fleets to organize and baseline their data, as well as develop sustainability plans and implement innovative policies to increase efficiency and reduce their carbon footprint. carbonBLU is excited to see this program moving forward and we are pleased to offer support to fleet managers to develop cost-effective strategies whether they need help organizing their data and creating a plan or they just want to get to the next level.
